Horseback Riding

Here at Northwestern Lake Riding Stables, we love our horses! We’ve even had some of the same horses for almost 30 years! Each horse has a unique personality, and is considered a treasured family member. Following is a brief description of each horse and mule. We do our best to match each horse with each rider, so if there is specific horse you would like to request, please let us know. Please keep in mind that for safety, health, or scheduling reasons, requests can not be guaranteed.

Meet the Horses ART –Art is one of our most popular guide horses, so you’ll usually see him at the front of the line, leading your ride.  He’s also a great choice for intermediate riders.
Meet the Horses Casper –Casper is a big gray gelding with lots of character! He has lots of energy and loves to play with toys, lead ropes and blankets that are left on the fence! He is a excellent choice for an intermediate rider.
Meet the Horses Cody –Cody is a gray Quarter Horse/Arabian gelding with lots of personality!  He’s the perfect horse for an experienced beginner or above.  He loves attention and treats!
Meet the Horses Curly Sue – “Curly” is a beautiful overo paint horse with some draft horse mixed in. She’s big, but one of our most gentle horses. Her training was second to none, and she knows how to take care of her rider. She gets lots of requests and repeat riders.
Meet the Horses Josephine – “Josie” is a fantastic sorrel mule mare. She’s known as the “Cadillac” of the herd. Smooth and gentle, she’s the perfect choice for those of us who haven’t ridden in many moons (or have never ridden at all), and don’t want to walk funny tomorrow! She loves treats, and she’s not picky, but some of her favorites are apples, carrots, grain, and apple treats.
Meet the Horses Pepsi –Pepsi is a bay mustang and the undisputed king of the herd, but unfailingly polite with people.    With personality to spare, he’s a great choice for kids.
Meet the Horses Docs Pocolena Page –“Pocolena” is a beautiful Quarter Horse bay mare. Smooth as can be and one of Mike’s favorites! She’s still under evaluation before we put her on the line, but she is doing great!
Meet the Horses Rocky – Rocky is a terrific Quarter Horse sorrel gelding who is as gentle as the day is long, and can go all day long. He is another perfect choice for kids and beginners.
Meet the Horses Sassy – Sassy is a sweet sorrel mare. Try saying that 5 times fast!  She’s got more “go” than she knows what to do with so she’s a favorite for guides and is a good choice for very experienced riders.
Meet the Horses JK Shrek – “Shrek” is a bay Quarter Horse gelding. He used to be a cow horse, and he loves to ride and has tons of energy. He is a favorite guide horse, and is a good choice for experienced riders.
Meet the Horses Snickers –Snickers is a bay gelding with a gentle and sweet disposition.  He’s a good fit for an advanced beginner or above
Meet the Horses Toby – Toby is a beautiful tobiano paint mare. She is perfect for beginners or kids. She takes such good care of her riders that people come back again and again to ride her. Always calm and cool, when going downhill, she takes each step very carefully, and doesn’t let distractions bother her.
Meet the Horses Tomboy – Tomboy is our very own Prince Charming! He’s a beautiful palomino gelding, and he loves to toss his golden mane. He’s a great ride for beginners and experienced riders.
Meet the Horses Willow – Willow is a Quarter Horse/ Thoroughbred mare, and a registered tobiano paint horse. We are still training and evaluating Willow, but she is doing well and looks like she’ll be a good horse for an intermediate rider.
