Here at Northwestern Lake Riding Stables, we love our horses! We’ve even had some of the same horses for almost 30 years! Each horse has a unique personality, and is considered a treasured family member. Following is a brief description of each horse and mule. We do our best to match each horse with each rider, so if there is specific horse you would like to request, please let us know. Please keep in mind that for safety, health, or scheduling reasons, requests can not be guaranteed.
ART – Art is one of our most popular guide horses, so you’ll usually see him at the front of the line, leading your ride.
Miss Beau’s Music – “Beau” is 7 year old registered Quarter Horse bay mare. She’s not trained for riding, but is a sweetheart in the pasture. We are looking to find her a new family, if you are interested, please let us know.
Black Jack – Black Jack is a wonderful black mule. He can be a handful, so you’ll usually only see the guides riding him! He and George are best friends and love to play together. We have to separate them when they’re tied at the manger, or they try to grab each other’s halter or lead rope. They even try to untie each other!
Boo – Boo is a sweet brown appaloosa gelding with a temperament made for kids and beginners. He’s big and tall, and loves carrots and apples.
Casper – Casper is a gray gelding.
Cleo – Cleo is a gentle brown mare, who loves to have her hooves cleaned and played with. She’s perfect for adults or for kids who have ridden horses before. She’s fun to ride, but if she’s behind Cody when he jumps over the water on the Creek Ride, she’ll usually jump too!
Cody – Cody is a gray Quarter Horse/Arabian gelding with lots of personality! He’s the perfect horse for an experienced beginner or above. If you take him on the Creek Ride, there’s a small stream that he likes to jump across, so hold on!
Curley Sue – “Curley” is a beautiful overo paint horse with some draft horse mixed in. She’s big, but one of our most gentle horses. Her training was second to none, and she knows how to take care of her rider. She gets lots of requests and repeat riders.
George – George is a bay mule gelding. He’s little, and fun to ride. People always come back smiling and laughing when he takes them for a ride.
Josephine – “Josie” is a fantastic sorrel mule mare. She’s known as the “Cadillac” of the herd. Smooth and gentle, she’s the perfect choice for those of us who haven’t ridden in many moons (or have never ridden at all), and don’t want to walk funny tomorrow! She loves treats, and she’s not picky, but some of her favorites are apples, carrots, grain, and apple treats.
Pepsi – Pepsi is a bay mustang and the undisputed king of the herd, but unfailingly polite with people. With personality to spare, he’s a great choice for a beginner or intermediate rider.
Docs Pocolena Page – “Pocolena” is a beautiful Quarter Horse bay mare and is a new addition to our family.
Rocky – Rocky is a terrific Quarter Horse sorrel gelding who is as gentle as the day is long, and can go all day long. He is another perfect choice for kids and beginners.
Sassy – Sassy is a sweet sorrel mare. Try saying that 5 times fast! She’s a new addition to our family.
JK Shrek – “Shrek” is a bay Quarter Horse gelding. He used to be a cow horse, and he loves to ride.
Snickers – Snickers is a bay gelding with a gentle and sweet disposition.
Star – Star has been with us for many years (she’s 29!) and is gentle as they come. A lot of customers were sad to hear that she and her sister Stormy are retired. Even though she’s retired, you can see her grazing in the pasture, as happy as can be. We would like to find her a new home where she and her sister Stormy can enjoy their retirement together.
Stormy – Stormy is a chestnut mare, and she and her sister Star have been with us since they were born (they’re 29!). She loves to “talk” to people for treats. You can see her every day in the pasture. We would like to find her a new home where she and her sister Star can enjoy their retirement together.
Taz – Taz is a big sorrel appaloosa gelding. Even though he’s in his mid twenties, he loves to ride and run. He’s a great choice for an experienced rider.
TC Time Wheel – “TC” is a new addition to our family. She’s a brown Quarter Horse mare.
Toby – Toby is a beautiful tobiano paint mare. She is perfect for beginners or kids. She takes such good care of her riders that people come back again and again to ride her. Always calm and cool, when going downhill, she takes each step very carefully, and doesn’t let distractions bother her.
Tomboy – Tomboy is our very own Prince Charming! He’s a beautiful palomino gelding, and he loves to toss his golden mane. He’s a great ride for beginners and experienced riders.
Tuff – Tuff is not quite ready to ride the trails yet. He’s young and full of energy and personality. He loves attention and you can see him in the pasture every day.
